Special IPROMS session in the 9th International IFAC Symposium on Robot Control (SYROCO '09)

09/09/2009
12/09/2009

University of Patras is proposing to organize a special session with the title "Methods for multiple mobile robots control", devoted to one of the research fields included in the scope of the I*PROMS Network of Excellence (NoE). The Network of Excellence for Innovative Production Machines and Systems (I*PROMS, http://www.iproms.org/) is funded under the EU Sixth Framework Programme for a duration of five years. I*PROMS addresses innovative manufacturing research in an integrated manner in order to reshape this research area and overcome its current fragmentation.

I*PROMS@AUSTRASIA

A pre-study revealed that there is an important need for I*PROMS to know and exploit research cooperation structures in manufacturing technology in particular in China and Australia. This activity aims in getting in contact with the respective coordination organizations in China and Australia and over these contacts with the most important scientific and industrial research organizations in the field. The visit tours will have at first a strong dissemination and exploration character but should lead also to the of transnational co-operations. The implementation off this activity will consist of a study tour involving 2 teams each with 3 representatives of I*PROMS.

I*PROMS SPECIAL SESSION INVITATION IN ASME/IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RECONFIGURABLE MECHANISMS AND ROBOTS (ReMAR 2009)

22/06/2009
24/06/2009

The European Network of Excellence for Innovative Production Machines and Systems (I*PROMS, http://www.iproms.org/ )will be organizing a special session in the ASME/IEEE International Conference on Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robots (ReMAR 2009) to be held at King’s College London, University of London, UK during 22-24 June 2009. The special session will be organized by the University of Patras, an active partner of the NoE.

I*PROMS is funded under the EU Sixth Framework Programme for a duration of five years. The network addresses the integration of innovative manufacturing research, in order to reshape this research area and to overcome its current fragmentation.

EFM Simflow demonstration

Target of this bid is to complement the EFM with an example of innovative manufacturing equipment design system based on nonlinear flow simulation and visualisation. It should also provide to the network an innovative tool for joint education and research which could form the basis for new proposals in NMP. Basis is the akquisition of a new SimTool for the design of complex flow equipment (extruders, pumps) for new materials (reactive polymers, innovative glass materials, organic material)and some trial applications displayed for efm. Currently the EFM planning is lacking a focus in innovative manufacturing processes and new materials. Parts manufacturing by injection moulding and extrusion of reactive polymers is such an innovative process based on new material.

12/09/2009

The 9th International IFAC Symposium on Robot Control (SYROCO2009) will be held at the Nagaragawa Convention Center in Gifu, Japan from September 9 to 12, 2009. All the past symposiums were held in Europe. To create a new foothold for growth, the 9th SYROCO comes to Gifu, Japan. It is the first time that SYROCO is held in non-European countries. The primary topics for the SYROCO 2009 will be "Robot Control in Human-Robot Dynamic Interaction". Robot control technology is widely used for space, surgery, rehabilitation, micro machine, entertainment, underwater, civil engineering etc. It will continue to play an increasing role in the area of human-robot dynamic interaction technology. The SYROCO 2009 will also try to cover the whole range

y4_net_88: Organizing a Video Seminar titled “Motion planning and scheduling techniques for mobile robots”

We propose to organize an IPROMS video seminar on Monday 23/6/08, at 11:00 Central European time. The goals of this seminar are to gather robotics researchers to discuss and present topics of common interest. Focus will be given to Motion Planning and Scheduling techniques for mobile robots which are moving in structured and/or unstructured environments. In today factories, automatic vehicles (AVs) are used to transport all type of materials related to the manufacturing process from one product station to another moving along predefined fixed paths. This network of paths limits the flexibility, so the AVs can not deal with the layout changes and the dynamic changes of the AVs tasks.

y4_net_89: Researcher Exchange Upatras and DCU

Four day research visit of one researcher (Professor N. Aspragathos) from University of Patras to DCU to discuss robotics research issues: The work research on Intelligent Robot Swarm for Attendance, Recognition, Cleaning and Delivery, performed at DUC is of great interest to the researchers from the Robotics Group, University of Patras.. This work coulld be integrated with the research on Motion Planning and Scheduling of a set of mobile robots carried out at the university of Patras. The program for the integration activities will be discussed and will be decided. A report on the results of the visit will be submitted.

y4_net_90: Hosting a researcher from outside the network in the University of Patras

The University of Patras hosted a researcher of the University of the Aegean (Assistant Prof. Fillipos Azariadis) for a period of 3 days (28-30/3/2007). The target of the visit was the integration of research activities carried out at the University of Patras and the University of the Aegean. This collaboration resulted to a joint paper with entitled “Path Planning of Holonomic and Non-Holonomic Robots Using Bump-Surfaces” which was published in journal of Computer-Aided Design and Applications, 2008. Furthermore, we discussed new directions for common research topics and interests in view of joint paper preparation.

The proposed joint demonstrator considers the motion planning and scheduling for a self-organized and self-optimized set of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) working in the reconfigurable manufacturing of the future. In the current manufacturing practice, automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) are used to transport all type of materials related to the manufacturing process from one Pickup and Delivery (P/D) station to another moving along predefined fixed paths. AGVs have limited autonomy, flexibility, and adaptability to deal with the layout changes and the dynamic changes of the AVs tasks.
