Competence Center Human-Computer Interaction,
MT Web Application Engineering, Fraunhofer Institute for
Industrial Engineering (IAO),
Stuttgart, Germany
The “Fraunhofer Gesellschaft” (FhG) is the leading applied research organisation in Europe, with 58 institutes working in different fields of science and engineering. Contractual research constitutes a share of more than 80%. FhG is a nonprofit institution with approximately 12,700 employees.
The “Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering” (Fraunhofer IAO) is working in the field of technology management and industrial engineering, in particular with computer-integrated business systems, manufacturing systems, organisational and software engineering as well as technology transfer. The mission of Fraunhofer IAO is to achieve a rapid and effective transfer of research results into industrial practice and products.
Fraunhofer IAO has more than 250 scientific and technical employees. The scientific background of the staff encompasses among others computer science, industrial management and engineering, mathematics and statistics, psychology and sociology.
The Competence Centre for Human-Computer Interaction is an interdisciplinary research group of computer scientists, engineers, psychologists, and media designers with a strong background in advanced systems development methods and tools, and human-computer interaction.
The main areas of work comprise:
Collaboration and knowledge management support systems (e.g. eGovernment)
Service Engineering, model-based service development
Semantic Models / Ontologies, Semantic Web Technology
Human-computer interaction, human factors of software systems and usability
Ambient Intelligence / Ubiquitous Computing and ambient interaction (new lab currently under construction)
Software engineering methodologies and tools, including analysis/specification, models, patterns, user interface generation.
Model-based development, model-based interaction
Object-oriented technologies and distributed system architectures, e.g. using intelligent web services and J2EE/.NET
The group is designing and developing systems and applications in a variety of areas such as business applications, corporate memories, creativity support systems, data visualization and web services.
Fraunhofer IAO has been participating in European Research Programmes since 1983 and is partner in I*PROMS Network leading “Production Organisation and Management” (POM) in close cooperation with the University of Warwick.
