Introduction to Quantitative Methods - Newcastle University Improve your understanding and use of data and statistics in your everyday work - this one day training course will consist of an equal balance of theory, examples and practical application. Dates – Wednesday 3rd March 2010 with registration from 9.15 am – held at Newcastle University Course content The course will include: • The interpretation of commonly used statistical measures • Drawing conclusions from data to aid decision making • The use of data for target setting and monitoring There will be an opportunity for delegates to work in small groups on relevant examples. During the day, delegates will learn about: 1. Collecting and describing data 2. Data types and descriptive statistics 3. Sampling strategies 4. Drawing conclusions from data, target setting and monitoring 5. Confidence intervals 6. Graphical analysis of data 7. Presenting analysis results On completion of the course participants will: • have developed an understanding of data analysis software • be able to generate descriptive statistics • be able to generate graphical displays of data • be able to analyse data • know how to interpret statistical software output • understand different forms of descriptive statistics and data types Who should attend? This course is targeted at those in the public sector who regularly use statistics in their work but who do not have a background in statistical analysis, as well as those who have such a background but would like to refresh their skills. The aim is to build confidence in using data in everyday work. The course will be at an introductory level.
